Founded
Legal seat:

Scottish Environment LINK is the forum for Scotland’s voluntary environment organisations. Its over 35 member bodies represent a wide range of environmental interests with the common goal of contributing to a more environmentally sustainable Scotland.

LINK provides a forum for its member organisations enabling informed debate, and assisting co-operation within the voluntary environmental sector. Core activities are information- sharing, discussion, and joint action.

LINK assists communication between member bodies, government and its agencies and other sectors within civic society. Acting at local, national and international levels, LINK aims to ensure that the environment is fully recognised in the development of policy and legislation affecting Scotland.

LINK works mainly through its Taskforces, groups of members working together on topics of mutual interest, sharing intelligence, developing positions and advocacy strategies to promote these to other interests, the public and decision-makers.

LINK is managed by a volunteer Board of Trustees, and supported by a core staff of 5 (3.9 fte), 3 project staff and a President. It is funded by Membership subscriptions, grants from Charitable Trusts & Scottish Government (including SNH), mainly.

LINK was officially created in February 1987 in Perth; then known as Scottish Wildlife and Countryside LINK. The creation was inspired by several conservation, landscape and recreation bodies getting together seven years earlier to fight the proposal for a development of skiing in Scotland’s Northern Cairngorms, including Lurcher’s Gully.
